I am an Educational Developer. I offer workshops, courses and consultancy services in all aspects of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. With over 20 years' experience in HE and FE in the UK, a publishing record and a national profile with SEDA, I am available for short or long term contracts. My most recent post as Head of Educational Staff Development at Birmingham City University involved running a department of 7 staff, managing research projects, developing the University's Learning and Teaching Strategy and supporting and developing academic practice in order to enhance the experience of our students.
Throughout my career in both the public and private sectors I have been involved in education or training. I have a strong record in writing distance learning material, both paper based and multi media. I have well-developed capabilities in respect of technology-enhanced learning and have developed online resources and delivered courses using VLEs including WebCT and Moodle, and a range of media including podcasts, videos, and social media. I frequently act as project manager either with sole responsibility for a product, or liaising with subject specialists. I manage teams and perform as a constructive member of other teams. My strengths lie in my abiolity to complete projects on or ahead of time, to think laterally and be creative in my approach to problems. With well-developed managerial skills and research abilities, I can design and deliver strategy, influence others and meet targets within financial and time constraints. This is aided by my accounting experience and my ability to manage financial budgets. My pedagogic approach is based on educational theory, informed by keeping up to date with current research, and engaging in my own research projects.
I am passionate about learning and development.
